9-1-1 How does it work? The River Oaks Dispatch Center is the PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) that receives 9-1-1 calls for Police, Fire and EMS (Emergency Medical Services) within the City of River Oaks. We will transfer a medical call to MedStar Ambulance after taking the information we need in order to dispatch our Fire Department First Responders to emergency medical situations within the City of River Oaks.
River Oaks is bordered by the cities of Fort Worth and Sansom Park which have their own police departments. If you call 9-1-1 from a phone located in one of these cities, your call normally will be routed to that respective department's dispatch center. Cellular telephones are a little different. As an example, if the coverage area for a cell site falls mostly in Fort Worth, a cellular 9-1-1 call made through that cell site will be routed to the Fort Worth Police Dispatch Center. This results in some confusion, but the calls are easily transferred between different dispatch centers. To avoid unnecessary delays in transferring your call, try to tell the operator *exactly* where you are. This can be done most easily by knowing the hundred block of the street you are on or by giving a cross street.
