Officer Nathan R Laurie joined the River Oaks Police Department in August, 2002 and was assigned to the Patrol Division.

In the early morning hours of July 29, 2004, Officer Laurie was attempting to make a traffic stop in the cities "college" district. When the suspect vehicle intentionally backed into Officer Laurie's patrol unit, he gave chase. After only a couple of blocks, he was involved in a fatal collision with another River Oaks patrol unit which was responding to assist him.

Officer Laurie is survived by his wife, Shirlene, 2 sons and a daughter.
